Sue deGennaro
Drawing as a child filled in all the spaces left behind by having no TV. In high school my love of drawing become obvious when it was revealed that art was the only class I never skipped.
I have done a degree in film, dropped out of Art School and even tried my hand at contemporary dance. As it turned out I wasn’t any good at remembering any more than three steps at a time.
For the next 10 years I trained as an aerialist / performance artist. My career ventured to the circus world finishing in an all girl flying trapeze troupe. However as time passed I found my fingers still searching for a pencil.
In 2009 I received a Mentorship from the Australian Society of Authors. Since then I have illustrated 20 Picture Books. My first book as an author/ illustrator was The Pros and Cons of Being a Frog (Scholastic) which was awarded Shortlisted Book in the Children’s Book Council’s (CBCA) Book of the Year Awards- Early Childhood category 2013 and received a Notable Award in the Picture Book category.
Missing Marvin (Scholastic) was awarded the 2019 Children’s Peace Literature Prize.
In 2020 We’re Stuck (Scholastic) was shortlisted in the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Early Childhood category.
